Computex 2019: ASUS Unveils the ROG Strix XG17, a 240Hz Portable Gaming Monitor

ASUS is once again treading new ground with the announcement of the ROG Strix XG17, a portable monitor that’s specifically designed for gaming. The first-in-class product features a 17.3-inch full HD IPS panel with a refresh rate of 240Hz and a response time of 3ms.

The ROG Strix XG17 features a metal chassis with an attached smart cover that protects the monitor in transit and folds back into a kickstand when in use. The smart cover can be positioned to angle the display in several ways.

The portable gaming monitor is equipped with a battery for around three hours of gaming at 240Hz, although lowering the refresh rate could increase battery life as well. Otherwise, the XG17 can be plugged into a wall outlet.

The XG17 is also equipped with two USB Type-C ports and a mini-HDMI port, making it compatible with desktops PCs, laptops, game consoles, smartphones, and other devices. It also features a pair of 1W speakers for audio.

ASUS has mentioned that it plans to release an accessory that will make it possible to mount the display above your laptop’s own display. It’ll be interesting to see how the company plans to pull this off though.

Local pricing and availability for the ROG Strix XG17 have yet to be announced but we should hear more information in the coming weeks or months.
