Smart Launches GoLocal Pocket WiFi Rental Service for Travelers

In today’s society, an internet connection is one thing most people can’t live without. But when travelling to foreign countries or areas, roaming data charges become quite expensive. So Smart has come up with a new service that gives travelers access to an affordable and accessible internet connection with their GoLocal Pocket WiFi Rental service.

The GoLocal Pocket WiFi Rental service lets travelers rent their own pocket WiFi device which gives them unlimited internet access through Smart’s network. The device can support up to five devices at the same time so users will be able to connect their smartphone, tablet, laptop, and more all at the same time.

“Leisure or business travelers use free wifi services in restaurants, malls, and hotels, but there are still limitations in terms of coverage as well as data security and privacy. Mobile data is needed to browse the internet, look up directions, book a ride, discover interesting places to go, etc.  Now with GoLocal Pocket WiFi, our visitors can stay connected anytime and wherever they are,” said PLDT and Smart EVP and Head of Enterprise, International and Carrier Business Ernesto R. Alberto.

“With the GoLocal service, our foreign visitors will be assured of data connectivity while they are here. It is easy and convenient to avail of this affordable solution which is available for as low as USD 5.99 per day,” said PLDT and SMART Head of International Carrier Business Division, Alejandro O. Caeg.

GoLocal Pocket WiFi Rental subscribers can choose from three different plans – a 1-Day Plan, a 7-Day Plan, and a 15-Day Plan, depending on how long they will be staying or how long they will be needing the service. The plans are priced at US$5.99, US$14.99, and US$24.99, respectively, but will also require a US$100 refundable deposit.

The GoLocal Pocket WiFi Rental service is available through the GoLocal website at www.golocal-app.com. The WiFi devices can then be picked up and returned at booths located at both the arrival and departure areas of NAIA 1, NAIA 3, and the Cebu-Mactan airport.
