Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Expansion Details, Release Date, Gameplay Trailer Released

Capcom has released a lot of information on Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, the first major expansion for Monster Hunter World, including details on what the new expansion will be introducing, its release date, and the game’s collector’s edition. Capcom also released a new gameplay trailer showing off many of the game’s new content.

New Location: Hoarfrost Reach

Iceborne introduces an all-new location called Hoarfrost Reach, which in itself hosts a variety of different areas. The icy region will require players to stock up on hot drinks to keep themselves warm and stave off the negative effects of the cold. According to Capcom, the Hoarfrost Reach is “A cold, inhospitable region covered in snow and ice. It may look too hostile to survive, but it’s teeming with unique endemic life.”

New Monsters and Elder Dragon

With a new location comes a new set of monsters for players to discover and hunt. One of the new monster is the Elder Dragon Velkhana, “an elder dragon with the power to freeze all. According to ancient legend, it can freely control the cold, and unleash an icy blast of breath.”

Another is the Banbaro, which looks like a cross between a deer, a platypus, and a dinosaur. Capcom describes the Banbaro as “A monster with two giant horns, like a running brick wall. It charges at threats while digging its massive horns in the ground, sometimes picking up entire trees in its path.”

There’s also the Beotodus, which is similar to the Jyuratodus but with a gigantic horn on its snout. The Beotodus is “a piscine wyvern that uses the sharp fin on its head to cut through the frozen soil, swimming freely through the snow. Can often be seen hurling snow at its prey using its leg fins.”

Lastly, Iceborne will also be reintroducing at least one monster from older Monster Hunter games. Namely, the Nargacuga from Monster Hunter Freedom Unite/Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which will show up in one of the game’s older locations. According to Capcom, the Nargacuga is “a flying wyvern covered in pitch black fur. It is extremely agile, especially on the ground, moving with explosive bursts of speed.”

Clutch Claw, an Improved Slinger, and New Moves

Capcom also announced that they’ll be adding the Clutch Claw extension for the slinger, which will allow players to grapple onto monsters and either control the monster’s movements or unload all their slinger ammo while on the monster’s head to make it flinch or topple. Players will also be able to perform powerful finishers with their weapons while riding the monster. Every weapon type will also be getting more moves for players to execute. Capcom plans to reveal more information on the new moves soon.

Release Date and Collector’s Editions

Capcom has finally announced the release date for Iceborne, which will be out on the PlayStation 4 on September 6, 2019. The PC release of the expansion is set for sometime in the winter. The collector’s edition of the game was also unveiled, with two versions being announced. The regular Collector’s Package will include an artbook, physical soundtrack, a Velkhana figurine, an Iceborne-designed metal plate, a digital code for Iceborne, the Deluxe DLC kit, and the “Yukumo” layered armor set. On the other hand, the Master Edition Collector’s Package will come with everything that’s in the regular package but will include a physical copy of the game rather than just a digital code.

As previously mentioned, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 4 on September 6, 2019, with a PC release slated for winter. You can check out the new gameplay trailer for the new expansion below:
