RATATAN, the upcoming action rhythm roguelike game inspired by the classic PlayStation series PATAPON, is finally coming out sometime in 2025. Developed in collaboration with PATAPON game designer Hiroyuki Kotani and Tokyo Virtual Theory (TVT) and published by Game Source Entertainment, RATATAN will be coming to the PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
In RATATAN, players defeat enemies by sending commands through dynamic and passionate music to the Cobuns. Players act as the Ratatan, using magical instruments to deliver different commands to the armies of Cobun to attack the enemies. There are also defensive rhythmic sequences as well as actions that allow the Ratatan to move freely, with unique skills for each character. Players can also enter “Fever Mode” when they accurately follow the rhythm sequences.
The game also features roguelike elements, with the Ratatan and the Cobun receiving different power-ups and rewards in every battle at random. RATATAN will support up to 4 players online co-op and will include mini games for multiplayer.
For the games visuals and characters, TVT has collaborated with popular illustrator and character designer Nelnal, who has previously worked on illustrations for the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
RATATAN is scheduled for release sometime in 2025 for the PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
