Gaming brand Razer has officially announced a new partnership with payment platform MOL to bring the former’s zGold digital currency to the Southeast Asia region.
MOL will now be the master distributor of zGold in the region and its MOLPoints digital currency will be rebranded as zGold-MOLPoints to leverage Razer’s brand recognition. zGold-MOLPoints will be available at over 1 million online and retail stores in the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
With zGold-MOLPoints, consumers will be able to purchase from over 2,500 content titles from the MOL network including games from PlayStation Store SEA and Facebook Gameroom stores as well as in-game content and currency from games under publishers Nexon and Wargaming. Users will be also be able to collect Razer zSilver currency when they use zGold-MOLPoints to pay for content. Razer zSilver may be used to redeem certain Razer products, Razerstore.com discount vouchers, and more.
To strengthen the partnership further, Razer has purchased a minority 19.9 percent stake in MOL Global, Inc. The investment is expected to help bring the partnership to greater heights as both companies work together to establish zGold and zGold-MOLPoints as the de facto digital currency for gamers.
“This partnership holds true to our commitment to give value back to our gamers by offering a universe of digital content, secure and convenient payments and a unique gamer rewards program,” said Min-Liang Tan, Razer CEO and co-founder. “Together with MOL, we are one step closer to our ultimate vision of a unified virtual currency for gamers.”
